Settled In (2/2017)

Another city, different bed.
You’re the song that’s stuck in my head.
Never get outside when up there is still blue.
Counting cracks on the sidewalk I whisper to you.

Another evening, same old thoughts
that I can’t remember and fear you forgot.
Never enough time with nothing to do.
Added miles strengthen smiles when I think of you.

Everything above me just sits on the breeze.
Old laughs lie eight thousand feet beneath my knees.
We’re falling apart together.
Breaking into pieces.
Falling into place.
We’re falling, but we’re falling together.

Two different people, the same starry eyes.
We both understand this is not a disguise.
If you feel it’s been years, it’s because it has.
There’s a reason why this continues to last.

Two different places with no quiet time.
Move a little bit closer, we’ll be just fine.
Through all the lights and behind all the sounds,
you see Chicago settled in the background.
